Julier Pauline. A Million-Year Picnic – Conversations on Mars, 2024 (Edition)
Pauline Julier's edition is a film still from her latest video installation A Million-Year Picnic - Conversations on Mars. In a Mars-like landscape, three scientists discuss the challenges of space exploration, recent discoveries and imaginary worlds: a Nobel Prize winner for the discovery of exoplanets - planets that lie outside our solar system - meets a cosmologist, and a planetary geologist and member of NASA's Curiosity and Perseverance missions. The title of the work, A Million-Year Picnic, refers to the short story of the same name by Ray Bradbury from 1946, which is part of his Mars Chronicles: a family is forced to leave Earth and finds its own reflection in the search for Martians. Even today, the question remains: what do we see of ourselves when we look at Mars? What kind of past or future life are we looking for in space?
