Emma Kunz (1892- 1963) created drawings based on questions and visions that she mapped by scrying on graph paper. In this book, Kunz's work is brought into dialogue with positions in contemporary art. Works by Agnieszka Brzeżańska, Joachim Koester, Goshka Macuga, Shana Moulton, Rivane Neuenschwander, Mai-Thu Perret and others take up themes related to Emma Kunz's work and thus allow a fresh look at it. The multitude of possible approaches to the Aargau researcher, naturopath and artist becomes clear in the interviews with the artists. Curator Yasmin Afschar's contribution on the reception history of Emma Kunz's work is based on extensive research: for the first time, sources such as interviews with contemporary witnesses, photographic estate material, press reports, unknown photographs and historical film footage have been evaluated to analyse how the reception and resonance of Kunz's works have changed since her first public presentation at the Aargauer Kunsthaus in 1973.
An innovative exhibition tour using 3D laser scanning technology completes the book.
The catalogue for the exhibition Kosmos Emma Kunz was named one of the «Most Beautiful German Books 2021» by the Stiftung Buchkunst!
