Spierenburg Veronika. Ecke, Hoek, Hörn (Catalogue)
The artist's booklet "Ecke, Hoek, Hörn" by Veronika Spierenburg accompanies her solo exhibition at the Aargauer Kunsthaus on the occasion of the Manor Kunstpreis award. The publication contains the photographic work "Ecke, Hoek, Hörn" as well as the text work "Licht, Licht, Ljus" and sees itself as an extension of the exhibition, as an additional space. The question of the meaning of space and how she can approach it directly as an artist forms a main component in Veronika Spierenburg's work. For the publication and exhibition, she systematically researched the architectural structures and the interior of the Kunsthaus in Glarus (CH), the Östergötlands Museum in Linköping (SE) and the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam (NL), and based on this, designed a multi-part group of works. The photographic work "Ecke, Hoek, Hörn" (Corner, Hoek, Horn), published here, shows twelve photographs of four photographed corner situations of a room from each of the three museums on six sheets of paper printed on both sides and loosely laid one inside the other. The text work "Licht, Licht, Ljus" (Light, Light, Ljus) with isolated light terms from travel reports and studies on museum buildings, which Veronika Spierenburg found in the archives of the three museums, is embedded between the pages of the text booklet wrapped around the picture sheets. In addition to these artistic contributions developed especially for the publication, three texts provide different approaches to Veronika Spierenburg's work. While Martin Jaeggi's contribution provides an insightful overview of the artist's central themes and artistic strategies, Mik Gruber's essay focuses on the perception of light and space. A conversation by Nicole Rampa and Katrin Weilenmann with Veronika Spierenburg offers exciting insights into the artist's thought processes.
